Crossroads CareKits
With guidance from clinic staff, over the months of September and October, Transfiguration volunteers purchased supplies and assembled 20 diabetic kits to be used as teaching tools for new diabetic patients at Crossroads Clinic Volunteers in Medicine (CCVIM) in Lake St Louis. At the end of October we were able to deliver the kits. The kits included diabetic socks, a Blood Glucose Log book, a hand mirror for examining feet, a single serving size packet of almonds to accompany an instructional sheet about healthy eating and portion control, and a smaller plastic kit marked with a red cross that contained packets of jelly, hard candy, and a protein bar that a patient could keep nearby for use in the event of a blood sugar emergency.
This new outreach program for Transfiguration began after members of the Vestry met with clinic Volunteers as part of a project of exploring how all of us at Transfiguration could be a blessing in our community in spite of Covid restrictions. Crossroads Clinic Volunteers in Medicine in Lake St Louis provides free medical care for uninsured people in our community ages 18-64, serving the counties of St Charles, Warren, Lincoln and Montgomery. All staff are volunteers and include licensed doctors, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, a mental health counselor, a physical therapist, a dietitian, pharmacy technicians and support staff. You can learn more about them at www.crossroadsclinicvim.org
Please contact us about joining us as a volunteer to assemble new kits in this new continuing outreach program, or to donate supplies if you are unable to work with us. Your help is needed. You CAN be a blessing in our community today.
